Meet Jake! Jake is male, brown and black, Shepherd/Akita mix pup. He is 1 year old and weighs approximately 60 lbs.
Jake is an amazing dog! He is a sweet, playful and slightly goofy pup. At 1 year old he is still a big puppy at heart. He likes playing with toys and with other dogs. He is an affectionate, friendly and easy-going boy. He may be a bit cautious when he first meets someone new but he warms up quickly. Jake is house trained and crate trained. He is leash trained and knows commands ‘sit’ and ‘down’. Jake rides well in the car and has learned not to jump on the people he meets.
As a puppy, Jake was diagnosed with Megaesophagus (ME) which is basically an esophagus condition that hinders movement of food to the stomach. The vet discovered a curve in Jake’s spine which they believe caused this condition. Jake received regular chiropractic adjustments and was fed in an upright position. These treatments, and the love of a dedicated foster, enabled Jake to recover fully and he was able to start eating normally at 6 months old. He has been symptom free ever since. Jake doesn’t require any special care now other than his owners need to use a harness when walking him as he should not have a leash attached to the collar around his neck.
Jake is neutered, up-to-date on vaccines and comes with a lifetime registration microchip. Jake would do best in a home without small children or small dogs as he doesn’t always realize what a big boy he is. Jake will enjoy going for walks and playing outside in a fenced-in yard, however he is primarily an indoor dog. Yep, that means make some room on the sofa! Woof!
Jake's adoption fee is $180. If you are interested in meeting Jake please fill out a dog adoption application on the Animal Rescue Friends website and one of our volunteers will give you a call.
