Meet Madeline!  Madeline is a small mixed breed dog with a silky black/brown coat.  She weighs 13 lbs and is approximately 8 years old.   Madeline came to us as a stray so we can’t be certain of her breed but we believe she is a Chiweenie, a long-haired Chihuahua / Dachshund mix.

It seems Madeline may have had a difficult time before being rescued.  We think she was kept as an outside-only dog and used for breeding.  We also think she may have been treated unkindly at some point. We were concerned about her when she came to us, but that was all for naught!  Madeline took a few days to decompress and adjust to her new surroundings and then she started to blossom right before eyes!

Madeline has a sweet personality and quickly acclimated to being part of her foster family.  She loves to go for leisurely walks and take in all the sights and smells around her.  She walks well on a leash.  Madeline has learned that the touch of a human can be a good thing.  In fact, she will accept as many head scratches as you can dole out and then she will nudge your hand for more!  Madeline has a fondness for dog beds and prances from room to room in her foster home giving each bed equal time.  Madeline is very quiet.  The only noise you will hear from her is if she is sound asleep in one of the aforementioned dog beds and you can hear her little snores.  She is really such a love! 

Madeline is a gentle soul and a very loyal companion.  She wants to be near her person as much as possible and will follow you from room to room.    Madeline likes to cuddle with her person but she does not like being picked-up.  Madeline is house-broken.   She gets along well with the other small dogs in her foster home but she is mostly indifferent to them.  Madeline has not demonstrated any destructive behaviors in foster care.  Madeline has not shown any interest in playing with toys however she does enjoy a KONG toy stuffed with a yummy treat.  Madeline is long past due for the safe, peaceful, loving part of her life to begin.  We are looking to place her in a special home where her people can shower her with the love and affection she so richly deserves. 

We think Madeline would be most comfortable in a home without small children.  Madeline has discovered she likes being part of the family and loves just hanging out with her people so if you are a homebody, she’d be a wonderful fit.  Madeline’s adopters should be able and willing to take her for short leisurely walks each day.  They will also need to let Madeline take things at her own pace as she transitions to her forever home and family.  Madeline eats wet dog food twice a day.
